It was a .303 carbine witn Martini action. I have no
idea whether such a weapon is available in India, but
any form of carbine would no doubt be acceptable.
In view of the satisfactory attitude of the
Shaikh and the fact that this was the only request
of any kind preferred by him on the occasion of tne
signature of his definitive treaty, I strongly
recommend that it should if possible oe granted.
No number of rifles was specified, but as the Shaikn's
object was to arm his escort of camelmen, I consider
that the amount granted should not be less than 100,
and might extend to 200 if available, with 100 rounds
of ammunition per rifle.

In a copy of a telegram to the Secretary of State for India, dated 13 August 1913, the Viceroy of India acknowledges the former's wish to negotiate a treaty as soon as Britain's convention with the Turkish government comes into force [the Anglo-Ottoman Convention of 1913, which was never ratified]. However, the Viceroy suggests that, following the recent death of Shaikh Jasim [Shaikh Jāsim bin Muḥammad Āl Thānī, Ruler of Qatar], any action should be deferred until his successor, Shaikh Abdullah [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Jāsim Āl Thānī], has established himself as ruler.
