The file contains correspondence relating to Customs charges and procedures at the Port of Kuwait, Customs co-operation between the Kuwait Customs authorities, the Persian Customs authorities at Bushire and the British Collector of Customs at Basra, and also detailed reports of the negotiations in 1923 between the Ruler of Kuwait and Ibn Saud (the Sultan of Najd) about proposed Najd Customs collection at Kuwait. The majority of the correspondence is between the British Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Kuwait and the British Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. at Bushire.
