A copy of a letter, numbered 8, from HM Ambassador Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, to Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Lord Richard Wellesley. The letter refers to instructions given to Ouseley by the Lord and discusses his relative successes. He reports improvement in relations with the Persians and several financial gains. On the subject of the definitive treaty with Persia he refers to his letter No. 13 to Lord Minto (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/107), gives his stance on the matter, and makes an urgent request for advice.
The letter was enclosed in Ouseley’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of November 1811 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/110).
