Copy of a letter from the Governor-General of the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. of Fort William, the Marquess of Hastings [Francis Rawdon-Hastings, the Earl of Moira], in Fort William, to HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, of 31 October 1818. In the letter Hastings offers his thanks and approbation to Willock for keeping him informed of events in Persia.
The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 24 March 1819 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/186), which was received on 15 June 1819.
