A copy of a letter from Captain Thomas Thompson, Commander of the British troops on Kishmee [Qeshm], to Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], sent from camp at Deristan [Dayrestān] on Kishmee and dated 7 September 1820.
The letter reports the landing of troops on Kishmee following the destruction and evacuation of Ras il Khyma [Ra’s al-Khaymah], and assesses the suitability of the island as a military base. It also reports the view of the Imaum [Imam] of Muscat on the British occupation of Kishmee and his rejection of Persian claims to the island.
The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company dated 26 December 1820 [IOR/L/PS/9/69/54].
