Dispatch No. 117 from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Andrew Stirling, Acting Secretary to the Government of Bengal From c. 1758-1858, the East India Company's administration in Bengal. From 1773-1833, the most senior of the three subdivisions of India, also known as the Supreme Government of India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. , sent from Tabreez [Tabriz] and dated 20 September 1828.
The letter reports the arrival from London of Macdonald Kinneir’s assistant Captain John Campbell, and forwards a list of correspondence carried by Campbell.
This document was originally enclosed in Macdonald Kinneir’s dispatch No. 36 to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company of 5 October 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/262).
