wharf were taken over for the Post Office and its personnel, while
several godowns were also rented along the foreshore near the
wharf and allotted to the S. and T., Ordnance, Marine Work
shops and Field Park. The open ground to the east of the wharf
was taken by the S. and T. for bhoosa and firewood dumps and
also for Field Park, Telegraph and Signal stores.

A rest camp was formed about 1 mile from Bushire Town in a
southerly direction and close to the main Bushire-Reshire road
in Square A 30 A. This camp eventually consisted of 12 huts for
Indian troops, 3 huts for officers and mess, and 4 for British other
ranks, with the necessary latrines, cook-houses, etc. These ac-
oommodated the Indian Labour Corps working at the Customs
wharf and the Military Police employed nnder the Embarkation anf * ^
Staff. It was also occasionally used to accommodate troops on a ^ e ’
arrival from overseas or awaiting embarkation. */
Another camp known as Pioneers’ Camp was situated in ^lie E
Square B 10 and formed the main station and headquarters of the Hi
Bushire railway, in it were accommodated Railway personnel, house.
