CHAPTER VII.
Communications.
Railways. —There are no railways in this area. A light Railways,
railway was laid from Biishire to Borazjun (40 miles) during
the operations of 1918, but this has now been dismantled.

Teleyraphs.r—The following telegraph lines exist:— Telegraphs.
(1) Reshire to Bushire (3 wires). Length 6 miles.
1 wire goes to the British Telegraph Office situated in the
Residency
An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India.

2 wires go to the Persian Telegraph Office situated in the
town ; one wire for the Ahwaz line and one for the
Tehran line. [See (2) below.]
Reshire to the British
Residency
An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India.
at Sabzabad 1 wire.
(2) Reshire to Tehran, via Shiraz, Isfahan and Ardistan
(3 wires). Length 509 miles. Intermediate stations
in this area are Borazjun, Kazarun, Shiraz, Abadeh,
Isfahan and Ardistan. Of the above 3 v ires one is
given over to the use of the Persian authorities for
the greater part of each day.
(3) A section of the international line (3 wires), running
from Ardistan via Na n, Yazd and Kerman to the
Indian border near KCh-i-Malik Slab, and in a nor-
r therly direction to Tehran vid Kashan. In the area
under review the only intermediate stations are Nam
' and Yazd.
X4) Section of the line from Bf shire to Ahwaz (1 wire).
Intermediate stations Bandar Rig and Bandar
Dllam. A telegraph office belonging to this section
has recently been opened at Ganaveh for the use of
the Anglo-Persian Oil Company’s undertaking there.
