The map shows Syria, Lebannon, and the parts of the neighbouring countries of Palestine, Transjordan Used in three contexts: the geographical region to the east of the River Jordan (literally ‘across the River Jordan’); a British protectorate (1921-46); an independent political entity (1946-49) now known as Jordan , Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Turkey. It indicates hydrology, international frontiers, standard gauge railways, narrow gauge railways, all weather roads, dry roads, and pipelines.
The map was created by the Research Department of the Foreign Office, and it is Annex C of the paper 'Syria' (M.E. (O) W.P.3), prepared by the Working Party of the Middle East (Official) Committee (IOR/L/PS/12/4756 folios 271 to 295).
