I am directed, by Secretary Sir Edward Grey to
transmit to you herewith, for the information of the
Secretary of State for India in Council, a copy of
a letter from the Treasury, recording the Lords Com
missioners f decision to sanction the grant to the
Sherif of Mecca of a subsidy of one hundred and twenty
five thousand pounds a month for the next four Months,
and suggesting that one half of the cost should be
borne by Indian funds.
I am to express Sir E. Grey’s hope that the Se
cretary of State for India in Council will be able to
see his v/ay to concur in the suggestion of the Lords
Commissioners of the Treasury.
