WHITEHALL, S.W.l.
17th May, 1938.
My dear Metcalfe,
Would you please refer to Walton’s letter to Fowle
of the 15th March, No. P.Z. 1675/38 (a copy of which was
sent to you by Air mail of 15th March) and Weightman’s
reply of the 37th March, D.0.No.c/l68 (copy enclosed) in
^ regard to jurisdiction in the Trucial Sheikhdoms of

As you will see from the enclosed copy of
correspondence with the Foreign Office, it is proposed to

concessions have been secured;
but this need not delay consideration of the terms of the
necessary draft Order-in-Council and we suggest that if no
objection is seen, a comprehensive draft Order should now
be prepared by the Government of India, in consultation with
the local Political Authorities, and forwarded to this
office for consideration by His Majesty's Government.
With reference to the last paragraph of Foreign Office
letter of 6th May we agree that consideration should now be
given to the question of amending the Bahrein Order-in-
Council to bring it up to date, while, as regards Muscat,
a new Order-in-Council will in any case be necessary when
the new Treaty comes into force. We should therefore be
glad if, after consultation with the local Political
Authorities, you would let us have your suggestions for
bringing the Bahrein Order-in-Council up to date and for
the necessary new Muscat Order-in-Council.
I am sending a copy of this letter (and enclosures)
to Fowle.
Sir
A. Metcalfe. KCIE., CSI.,MV0.,

Government of India.
Yours sincerely,
