letter from the Office of the Adv'ser to the Government at
Bahrain making certain suggestions and informing me that if no
reply was received in 10 days Shaikh Earned would sell his share
to the Municipality and would grant them the 5 years monopoly.
I wored in reply to this letter on the 6th August, but on the
11th of August received a cable from my agent informingme that
Shaikh Earned had sold to the Municipality. It would, therefore,
appear that I am the owner of a half share in the Ice making
Factory
An East India Company trading post.
and the Municipality is the owner of the other half
share. I am, hov/ever, advising that according to English lav;
I cannot be compelled to accept toe Municipality as my partner,
and ifthe matter were in English Courts I should be entitled to
apply for the partnership to be dissolved and the assets realised
and distributed between the partners. I am not prepared to
accept the Municipality as my partner but I would be pre ared
either to purchase their share from them or to dispose of my
share to them upon satisfactory terms being arranged.
I, therefore, wish to know what my remedy is. Jill you
please inform me what my position is and whether I can obtain
the same relief in Bahrain as I could if the matter were before
the English Courts. If so, will you please let me know what
procedure should be followed.

This file contains papers relating to a legal dispute between Yusuf Lutfally Khunji and Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the ruler of Bahrain. The case concerns a joint venture between the aforementioned parties to set up and operate an ice-making plant in Bahrain at a spring owned by Mr. Khunji in 1922. Following the expiration of a five year monopoly on the manufacture and sale of ice in Bahrain, the two parties fell into a dispute on the plant.
The majority of the papers consist of legal correspondence between Mr Khunji's lawyers in Manchester and either the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Bahrain or the Financial Advisor to the Ruler of Bahrain, Charles Dalrymple Belgrave. Of note, however, are letters of intervention by the Foreign Minister of Iran through the Persian Legation in London, protesting the treatment of a Persian subject in British protected territory.
