Whereas a new Treaty between us, in respect or the
Sultanate of Muscat and Oman, of the one oart, and Our Itoble
Friend George the Sixth, King of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, end the United British Dominions beyond the cees,
Emperor of Indie, of the other part, to replace the Treaty of
Friendship Commerce and navigation, signed at Muscat on the
19th March 1891* was concluded, and signed on the 16th Dhee
il Hijjah 1367 on our behalf in person, on the one hand, and by
the Plenipotentiary of V! r hdble irend orge the Sixth, on
the other hand, anrl that Treaty is as follows, word for word j-

accepted, and confirmed its Articles and Clauses severally and
as a whole, as we do by this document approve, accept, confirm
and ratify it, for Ourselves, our heirs and successors in
respect of the Oultanate of 'user t and Oman; promising upon
the honour of Our Boyol l ord that we will sincerely and
faithfully observe and perform all and singular the tilings
which are mentioned and contained in the treaty, and that we
will not expose the same to be violated by anyone, or to any
transgz'ession, so far as it lies in our pover. And for the

this document, which we have signed with ur oyal and.

Matters covered include the following: informal discussions with the Sultan regarding the revision of the existing treaty; the Sultan's reported unwillingness to agree to any further renewals of the treaty in its existing form after 11 February 1938; amendments to the initial draft of the new revised treaty, and the preparation of signature copies, in English and Arabic; the signing and ratifying of the new treaty, on 5 and 7 February 1939 respectively; the extension of the provisions of the treaty to certain British territories.
