Salih Muhammad considerably improved Lash and made it his head
quarters.
Salih Muhammad’s son, Abd-ur-Rasul, died at Farah and left several sons
one of whom was Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ahmad Khan, who was Deputy Governor of Kalakah. *
On the death of Salih Muhammad in 1850, which took place after that
of Abd-ur-Rasul, Ahmad Khan succeeded to the jagir of Lash. He was
however, in disfavour with Amir Dost Muhammad Khan and intrigued with
the Persians. He received a summons from Amir Dost Muhammad Khan to
join his camp at Herat in 1862, but he declined to go and fled to Khurasan.
However, he returned to Lash at the beginning of Amir Slier Ali Khan’s
reign. Soon after his return he renewed his intrigues with Persia and contracted
an alliance witli Mir Alam Khan, Chief of Kain and Sistan, by giving his
daughter in marriage to the latter’s son, Mir Ismail Khan (the present Shauknt
ul-Mulk, Chief of Kdin).
Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ahmad Khan died about the year 1875 and was succeeded at L&sh
by his eldest son, Shams-ud-Din Khan. The latter was, however, killed by his
younger brother, Muhammad Haidar. The family emigrated to Persia a few
years afterwards when the girl who is betrothed to Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Nauroz Khan of
Kharan was taken by one of her brothers to her elder sister at liiriand with

Report by Khan Bahadur Maula Bakhsh on his journey from Meshed to Quetta in 1898.
