I nave the honour to refer to my despatch
No * 10 dated the 2oth January 1930, and to submit a
iuxther report on the state of the Bahama a& iatif.

taken refuge in Bahrain before the close of the year,
ana that many of thm clairiieu Bahrain nationality. To
some 143 of them the Bahrain Government gave nationality
papers, after the closest investigation, and with the
iull authority of Shaikh Hamad. ’hen Bin Jaud*
approached Qatif His xcellency became nervous and <,oia
the Adviser that it would be better not tj issue any more
while the King was in the vicinity and only four more were
issbed.
3. Shortly oefore Bin Baud embarked on the Patrick
otewart, news reached Bahrein that a number of those
who had returned to oatif with.passes had seen flogged
ana their passes taKen from them, and that three men
had been so orutally beaten that they died. I aid not
j action at the time, since apart from one man who
tola Mr Belgrave that he had been at the floggings ana
had helped to bury one of the victims, there was no
confirmation of the news, and tue Shiah adhi, who has
aany relatives on that side, did not bring farther proof
though he had claimed he could easily do so.

The successor to the Court of Directors. , Foreign Office, and Colonial Office, and forms part of the interdepartmental discussion of matters such as: petitions to the British Government by the Baharnah community in Bahrain complaining about oppression by the Bahrain Government; Wahhabi influence in Bahrain and the protests of the Dowasir tribe over British-backed reforms in the country; the poor treatment of the Baharnah in Qatif by the authorities there; and Shaikh Isa bin Ali's memorial to the Government of India following his removal as the ruler of Bahrain.
