Khalifah Khair Muhammad (Quyyat-ul-Islam), and said that they had bought
the arms from Baluchis inland. They damaged the telegraph line but said that
the damage had been done by a youthful member of their gang, whom they had
punished. A similar caravan, but with only 5 loads of rifles, was said to he
due at Baluchab on October 28th.
1083. Miscellaneous. —The editor of the Mirat-i-Junub (vide paragraph
990) has come out of “ bast ” and is said to have given Husainoff and the Turks
a written apology with which they profess to be satisfied.
1084. The news of the despatch of British Indian troops to Shiraz is now
common property in Kerman and is generally believed to be the prelude
to the despatch of troops to other places. The sentiment excited is regret rather
than surprise or resentment, and apprehension that the step will furnish a
pretext for more extensive measures of a similar character in the North.
