7. Fho number of remounts brought to Quetta last year amounted to 408,

occurred among this large number of horses should silence those critics who
maintain that the merchants who use the Nushki-Seistan trade route expose

8. Ihe news that a Consular treasury has been established in Seistan, and
that the Tv orth-Western Railway and allied railways have granted a rebate of a
third on the freight of goods received either from, or for despatch to, Seistan,
has spread to the bazars of Mashad and Herat. I venture to predict that the*
full significance of these important concessions will only become apparent when
next year s trade returns come to be made up.
9. I would respectfully draw special attention to the remarks I have to
oifer on that most important subject, the improvement of facilities for the
carriage of goods between Quetta and Nushki as well as on the extension of the
telegraph line to the frontier.
The recommendations I make on these two subjects will be found embodied
in paragraphs 11 and 61 of the appendix attached.
10. I much regret that indisposition has delayed the submission of this
report.
11. I trust that the steps which I recommend be taken for the further
protection and development of the trade route as well as the measures I have
adopted during the year to develop trade and improve the trade route will, as in
previous years, receive the Honourable the Agent to the Governor-General in
Raluchistan’s approval.
