27th April, 1945.
My dear Harrison,
PC.34A
I refer to the first paragraph of my D.Q, PC.34 dated
12th April addressed to Mr. Peel. We have now received the
text of the Umm-al-Quwain Concession which follows identical
lines with that of Sharjah and, indeed, is practically an
identical copy thereof with a slightly smaller annual payment -
Rs. 24,000 p.a. instead of 40,000.
An exchange of letters with the Shaikh has provided that
the annual payment is to be paid in four instalments.
I do not think that you will require us to give you copies
of all this, which is somewhat voluminous and of which you
already have many examples with the other Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates.
Concessions. Would you kindly confirm this?
I should be grateful also if you will indicate whether
the machinery for a "Political Agreement between ourselves
and you still exists and whether in that case you would wish
us to conclude one in respect of Umm-al-Quwain.
Yours sincerely.
F.A.K. Harrison, Esq.,
