Turkmanchai, by which Persia ceded to
Kussia the provinces of Erivan and Nak-
chivan, and the frontier Avest of the Caspian
was fixed from Mount Ararat, along the
Aras, to Astara. Russia also claimed a war
indemnity of 3,000,000/.
In 1834 Path Ali died, and, with the assistance of Death of
Great Britain, his grandson, Muhammad Mirza, succeeded Path Ali,
to the throne. 1834.

This led to strained relations with Great Britain, and
the climax was reached in 1850, when Persian troops
once more advanced against, and occupied, Herat.
The Government of India declared war against Anglo-
Persia, and despatched an expedition to Bushire under Persian
Sii James Outram. Bushire and Mohammera were }g^g_ 7
captured, the Persians losing heavily in men, guns, and
stores. A small British naval detachment, about 300
strong, sailed up the Karun to Ahwaz, which was
abandoned by the Persians.
By the Treaty of Paris, ratified at Baghdad, Persia Treaty of
