During the last year or so it has not been the
practice for H-.M.Ships to stop Dhows in the rersian Gulf
During
for the purpose of searching for slaves or arms. Illici^
traffic in slaves and arms has-been reduced to almost negligible
proportions, but it must be otavious that t,< is satisfactory
state of affairs can only continue so long as the fear of
detection is constantly in the mind of those who hope to benefit
themselves by indulging in such activities. this can be
achieved to a very great extent if- it is known that Dhows are
likely to be searched when they happen to fall in with one of
-H.: .Ships. On the other hand if Dhows continue to be left
entirely to their own devices^ it is possible that the opportun
ity thus presented may be taken advantage o ’, and the tratfic
may recommence.
'2. In future, therefore, ships of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran.
