may of course consider that it would he preferable to
carry out operations with flying boats rather than with
land machines. This is a matter on which I am not
competent to express an opinion. For the reasons given
in my despatch however I think it desirable that the
machines should visit the village of the Shaikh of Bani
Bu All which is situated 40 miles inland.
4. I doubt whether such action at Sur would have
an unfavourable reaction on the projected Arab Air route,
if carefully regulated. It is obviously undesirable to
arouse resentment among the Arabs by for instance injuring
a mosque or women or children, but if preliminary
reconnaissances were carried out and due warning given
and the action ultimately taken limited to the
accomplishment of our needs, I think it would be recognised
that the punishment was just.
5. I should be grateful if you could let me have
your views by telegram as I am proceeding on your on board
the "PATRICK STEWART" on the 4th May to the
Trucial Coast
