to say that he under a tends that India has decided to replace the
VioJcere-Berthiers by the Bren gun* This being so he suggests
that the Arab States should eventually be armed with the Bren gun
as their permanent weapon* In the meantime, however, since Bren

guns will not be available for some eighteen months, vide India
Office Express Letter Jio*P*2*2746/39 of 6th May 1939, he suggests
that Vloitere-Berthier guns should be obtained on loan^from India*
