Koh-i-Malik Siah, who works under the superintendence of the British
Vice-Consul at Xoh-i-Malik Siah. For this agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. he is entitled to a
fee of 4 a. per camel load. The trade agent may also be employed by
private arrangement to clear goods from the customs. Traders
wishing their goods to be forwarded by the Palang Kuh route are recom
mended to instruct the agent at Koh-i-Malik Siah accordingly.
Imperial Bank of Pmm.—The branch of the Imperial Bank at
Seistan and its agent at Birj and are willing to assist traders in re
mitting and collecting money and (by arrangement) in clearing goods
from the customs at Seistan and Koh-i-Malik Siah.
Post and telegraphs.—Thwz are post and telegraph facilities between
India and Persia via Nushki.
Inquiries. —Inquiries on all matters connected with trade by the
Nushki route should be addressed —In Persia, to His Majesty’s Con
sulates at Meshed, Turbat and Seistan, the Vice-Consulate at Koh-i-
Malik Siah, and the British Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , Birjand; in British India, to the
Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Nushki. The detailed transport contracts; Indian
railway tariffs, route lists, trade reports; Persian customs regulations,
tariff, passport regulations, &c., can be seen at the above offices or copies
will be forwarded to bona fide applicants.
Camel transport rates.—1. Seistan to Nushki.—Local rates 70 to 90
krans (cold weather only).
2. Seistan to Meshed.—Via Ahwaz and Tag-i-Duroh, 492 miles.
Local camel rates when available, 120 krans.
Under the Indian Government’s camel contract the rate is 120 krans
per 410 lbs.
This is the route always followed by caravans to Meshed as it is
short and affords good camel grazing.
3. Seistan to Kerman.—Via Nasratabad Ispe. Camel rates, 70 to
80 krans. Little used.
4. Seistan to Bandar Abbas.—Via Minab and Began, 520 miles.
Camel rates, 90 to 120 krans. Little used.
5. Birjand to Seistan.-^Via Neh, 248 miles. Local rates, when
camels are available, 20 to 50 krans. Seistan Consulate rates, 40 krans.
Boads safe and good.
6. Birjand to Kerman.—(a) Via Khabis, 238 miles. Subject to
robberies. (6) Via Naiband, 310 miles. Safer. Camel rates, 50 to
65 krans.
7. Birjand to Bandar Abbas.—Via Neh, Ispe, Narmashir. About
690 miles. Camel rates, 90 to 110 krans. Beturn journey, 150 to 200
krans. At present unsafe. Good camel grazing. During summer,
donkeys generally available at Bandar Abbas at considerably higher
rates per weight carried.
8. Birjand to Yezd.—Via Bobat and Pusht-i-Bandan, 363 miles.
Camel rates, 80 to 100 krans. Boute unsafe owing to robberies. •
9. Birjand to Ispahan.—Via Tabas, 578 miles. Camel rates, 90 to
120 krans.
10. Birjand to Tehran.-^Via Sabzawar, 780 miles. Camel rates,
100 to 120 krans.
11. Birjand to Sabzawar (Khorassan).—364 miles. Camel rates,
30 to 60 krans.

The file consists of a printed report on the trade of the provinces of Seistan and Kain [Sīstān and Qā’en] in Persia [Iran] for the Year 1908-1909, by Major Roger Lloyd Kennion, HM Consul for Seistan and Kain. It is Number 4396 of the Annual Series of Diplomatic and Consular Reports. The report was edited at the Foreign Office and the Board of Trade, and presented to both Houses of Parliament of the United Kingdom in January 1910.

The report includes a table of contents, which lists sections including: tabular statements showing currency, weights and measures, and population and products; the movement of trade in articles in which British and Indian industries are principally interested; openings for British trade; the comparative progress of foreign competition; difficulties which the law and practice of the country place in the way of trade; trade routes; concessions to traders; local products; livestock; mines; factories; current prices; the cost of living; population and health; and statistics of imports and exports.

The report includes a map showing trade routes in Seistan and Kain and the surrounding area (folio 3).
