MEMORANDUM.
Revision of section of Aitchison’s Treaties
relating to ilden and the south coast of Arabia.
1. India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. comments ;
Proposal to suggest to Government of India that
references in the last paragraph of the Yemen Narrative -
page 35 - to the Imam’s encroachments on the Aden
Protectorate should be brought up to date before
publication ( India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. letter to Colonial Office and
Foreign Office: P. 140 of 6th February).
2. Colonial Office suggestions :
(1) That reference should be made to the Resident at
Aden to check the statements made -
(a) regarding the present Chiefs of the Aden
Protectorate iwith special reference to an item
on page 17 about the succession in 1927 to
Sult»an Saleh);
(b) as to the extent of Zfcidi occupation of the
Protectorate (with particular reference to
pages 17, 22, 24 and 25).
(2) Subject to the views of the Secretary of State for
Foreign Affairs - Page 57. line 6 .- Add "and it is held now
to have expired”.
d 3 , page 37. line 10 .- Add "an expression which it
has been held does not include Arabian Rulers".
(3) Page 38 .- Omit reference to grant of oil
concession in the Farsan Islands to an English Syndicate.
The Idris^i subsequently denied the validity of this
concession, and after negotiations in which it became clear
that the Company would not be allowed to proceed with the
undertaking unless a fresh concession were obtained, the
Company decided to withdraw (Colonial Office letter of 21st
February - P. 1629).
