ADEN— Irka, Lower JIaura and Behan al Kasab.
In 1904 some Fadthli tribesmen fired on a lower Aulaki dhow A term adopted by British officials to refer to local sailing vessels in the western Indian Ocean. , and
in consequence the old feud between the two tribes broke out again.
: There was little actual fighting, and at the end of the year a truce was
proclaimed.
In 1912, Sultan Nasir bin Bubakr 'died. He was succeeded by Sultan
Bubakr bin Nasir.
In 1924, Sultan Bubakr abdicated in favour of his cousin, Mu^nasar
bin 'Ali. He was recognised by His Majesty’s Government as the ruling
chief of the Lower Aulaki tribe, and the payment of the usual annual
stipend was continued to him.
The population of the lower Aulaki tribe is estimated at 15,000, and
the gross revenue at Rs. 10,000 a year.
(6) Irka.
Since 1888 the Shaikh of Irka has received a stipend. A Protectorate
Treaty (No. XXXVII) was concluded with him in that year, and was
ratified on the 26th February 1890.
Shaikh Awadth bin Muhammad ba Das died in January 1901. He
was succeeded by Shaikh Ahmad bin Awadh bin Muhammad ba Das. A
new Protectorate Treaty (No. XXXVIII) was concluded with the latter
in January 1902, when his stipend was increased from 80 to 180 dollars.
(7) Lower Haura.
The Shaikhs reside at lower Haura, a seaport about 12 miles from
Irka. Since 1888 an annual stipend has been paid to them, and a
Protectorate Treaty (No. XXXIX) was concluded with them in that
year r and was ratified on the 26th February 1890.
In May 1895 Shaikh Abdulla bin Muhammad ba Shahid, the repre
sentative Shaikh, died. He was succeeded by Shaikh Said bin Abdulla
ba Shahid who abdidted in February 1896, being succeeded by his
brother, Shaikh Ahmad bin Abdulla. The latter died in March 1900,
and was succeeded by Shaikh Saleh bin Awadth.
A revised Protectorate Treaty (No. XL) was concluded with the
latter in April 1902, when his stipend was increased from 50 to 180
dollars.
On^6th October 1917, Shfkh Saleh bin Awa<| died. He was succeed
ed by his son, Awad bin Saleh.
(8) Behan al Kasau.
This country lies to the north-east of the Upper Yafai country, and
to the North of Beda.

This part relates to the Government of India's decision to issue a revised edition of Aitchison's Treaties (full title: A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and Sanads Relating to India and Neighbouring Countries ), with revised narratives for each geographical area covered, incorporating the principal events that have occurred since the publication of the previous edition in 1909.

The part contains a proof of the revised narrative for the section regarding Aden and the south coast of Arabia (ff 26-63), followed by copies of numerous related treaties and agreements covering the period 1802-1919 (ff 64-208).
