In 1880 the Chief signed an Agreement (Nor. LIX) by which he
became a British stipendiary, receiving 50 dollars a year. This allow-
ance was afterwards doubled.
In September 1886 Ali bin Mokbil died, and was succeeded by his
cousin, Saif bin Saif, to whom the stipend was continued.
