Agreement made between the Naejb or Mokalba and raE Kaito
Praise be to God !
On Wednesday, the 3rd of Bajab 1290. tie Honourable Abdulla and Salih
and Awadth sons of Omar-bm-Awadh-al Haiti, purchased and became the owners
of half of the Bandar Mokalla, with all its fortifications, and half of the Bandar
Buram from Nakib Omar and Nakib Muhammad, eons of the late Nakib Salah
for the sum of 32,40,000. Out of this was deducted 31,60,000, which was due
to 7 them' Tw?r '? Naldb) * 0 ‘h' Kaiti ’ the J80.000 was paid
to them. The total value amounts to $2,40,000, half of which is *1,20,000. The
above-mentioned Nakib-Omar and Nakib Muhammad, sous ,of the late Nakib
Salah, have already sold half of the Bandar of Mokalla and half of Buram as has
ecn said above with all their rights, internal and external. This sale is quite
fixed upon those whose names have been mentioned above, viz., Abdalla and
Sabh and Awadth-bin-Omar. This sale has paid off all the debts that were upon
the late Nakim Salah-bin-Muhammad. There is nothing now remaining of this
debt If any claim is advanced, it will be null and void. They have settled that
Nakib Omar is to be Governor of Mokalla and to do justice according to the Mn-
hammadan law, and to order for good and prevent evil, and not to oppress the
jects and others. If any quarrel should arise among the seafaring men, they
are to e sent to those of their own class. In all cases relating to law, justice
e done according to the Muhammadan law. All mercantile cases to be sent
to t e merchants for trial. Khairulla, the slave of the late Nakib Salah, is to
. ° wor k relating to the Bazar. Nakib Omar is to govern according to justice
id all small cases, and in cases of importance he should consult with any one of
t e. sons of Omar-bin-Awadth. If all of them are absent, then to consult with
t eir Agents. Nakib Omar cannot settle anything without their consultation,
nor can he write any correspondence with the High Ottoman Governments ot
its officers, neither to the English Government or its officers, also not with any
other power, without consulting the Kaiti people or their Agents. He also can
not ha\ e inrerviews with any of the above-mentioned Governments without their
or their Agent s presence. Their opinion and their voice should be one. Nakib
mar cannot do anything without their consultation. If he were to do violence
to any person, the Kaiti or their Agents should give him advice. If he does not
ear their advice, they can prevent his acting without right. The Kaiti can put
their garrison in half of the Mokalla forts, and can also put their soldiers.in the
. 0U8e called Najdi, situated near the northern fort and the eastern fort, and also
in forts situated out of Mokalla, viz., Bakarain and Thamaj, and Nakib Omar
cfco keep his garrison in forts Nakan and Dis, and all the other remaining forts

This part relates to the Government of India's decision to issue a revised edition of Aitchison's Treaties (full title: A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and Sanads Relating to India and Neighbouring Countries ), with revised narratives for each geographical area covered, incorporating the principal events that have occurred since the publication of the previous edition in 1909.

The part contains a proof of the revised narrative for the section regarding Aden and the south coast of Arabia (ff 26-63), followed by copies of numerous related treaties and agreements covering the period 1802-1919 (ff 64-208).

Also included is a small amount of interdepartmental correspondence discussing the accuracy of the revised proof, and the question of whether all the related treaties and agreements that have been concluded since 1909 should be published in the revised edition, as proposed by the Government of India. Correspondents include the following: the Foreign Secretary to the Government of India; officials of the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , Foreign Office, and Colonial Office.

The French language material consists of several articles among the aforementioned treaties and agreements.
