Your talegrara No,81, Amir will be asked by British
Resident to write letter to Bin Gaud expressing regret for first
incident and recording steps which he too* immediately after
occurrence. Hope to infoim you whether Amir agrees tomorrow.
Second incident is not a matter for apology from Amir,
It was a case of disrespect of Mr.MaoDonnell and has already been
dealt with by him as such. 1 have given careful consideration
to suggestion that Am.r should be moved to issue decree imposing
penalties on any Trane Jordan Sheikh guilty of conduct such
as that of Bin Jazi bit he would I am confident be unwilling to
take each action and ,o ask him to do so would not be reasonable.
I have conside ’ed also possibility of urging imposition of
fines or removal of B. n Jazi and Ibn 2aal from Amman and both
alternatives I regard as impracticable. MaoDonnell is emphatic
as regards fins that lis discussion with Kedjaz Agent to which
you refer should not le taken to indicate that he regarded it as
practicable to impose punishment of any kind and this must have
been understood by Hecjaz Agent. He informs me as regards removal
from Amman that presence of both Sheikhs is indispensable fer
prosecution of his enquiry. There is gome reason to believe that
Bin Saud if he receives an apologetic letter from the Amir would
