(b.) From Sergiopol the road continues
on hv Semipalatinsk and Pavlodar to Omsk
in Siberia, a distance of 523 miles.
(c.) From Sergiopol a road runs to Bakhti,
on the Chinese frontier, a distance of 184
miles.
(4.) From Bokhara to Andijan, via Samarkand,
Jizak, Khojend (from each of the last-named
places a branch road leads to Tashkend), and
Khokand, a distance of some 520 miles.
(a.) This road continues on from Andijan
to Osh, a distance of 30 miles.
The following routes* lie to the south of the Central
Asian Railway, and connect stations on that line with
Persian and Afghan territories :—
(5.) From Chikishliar (a small Caspian port) to
Kizil Arvat and to Band (stations on the
Central Asian Railway), via Chat, Tersaken,
and Khwaja Kala, a distance of 204 miles.
(a.) There is also a route from Chikish
liar across the Atrek river to the Persian
town Astrabad. Little is known of this
route, which is probably bad, but the
distance is only 68 miles.
(6.) From Askhabad to Meshed, via the Persian Herat line
frontier station Baj Girha (30 miles), and of advance.
Kuchan, a distance of 177 miles. This is a
carriage road and used for regular wagon
traffic. From Meshed to Herat there are
the following routes:—
(a.) Via Pul-i-Khatun and Zulfikar to
Herat (difficult in parts), a distance of
240 miles.
(b.) t'ia Turbat-i-Sheikh Jam and
Khusan to Herat; the main caravan route,
a distance of 216 miles.
(c.) Via Khaf and Ghurian to Herat, a
distance of 280 miles.

Also included is a preface by Major-General J M Grierson, General Staff, War Office (folio 3), appendices (folios 63-78), including detailed information on the railways of the region, and a colour map of Central Asia (folio 81).
