The petition is said to have been composed by Abdul Wahab
^aiyani. This individual was one of the ringleaders in
opposition to Shaikh Hamad at the time that Jasfim Al Ohirawi
was deported. He then left Bahraip of his own accord, it is
said he was frightened by Yusuf Kanoo, for reasons of his own.
He went to Bombay where he remained for about two years and
returned quite recently after the return of Jasim Ohirawi*
Some years ago he made himself very unpopular with the Shaiks
by trying to get up a sort of
to consist of Sunni Arabs - only Nationalist to resent all
foreign interference. His patriotism does net however extend
to using- his influence to ameliorate the condition of his
country, but he is always 'against the Government' whatever
form it may take is.. He is very bitterly opposed to Persians
and i all Shaial.
It is said that it was the intention of the petitioners to
send the petition to you with a deputation, but rumours have since
rot about that Bin Saud will come here (this must have been talked
about by the fex Qosaibis who probably have news of the proposed
conference from Bin Saul) and that they will get him to present

  • The proposal to press for the deportation of Shaikh Abdullah, one of the ruling Shaikh Isa's sons and someone thought to be largely responsible for injustices committed against the Shia Baharna
  • Agitation in the Persian press in response to perceived injustices, highlighting Persia's claim to Bahrain
  • The forced retirement of Shaikh Isa and the instalment of his son, Hamad, in his stead
  • Trouble between the Baharna and the Dawasir tribe (loyal to Ibn Saud of Nejd) in Budaiya and the proposal to bombard the village.
