to the 31st idem the amount advanced from the Vote
of Credit on Russian account was - £125,000
on which interest at 3 % to the 31st
idem amounted to - £1,184.15.10.
Including the Russian share of arrears
paid by the Foreign Office since that
date, viz> _ £115,000
the total sum of - £241,184.15.10
falls to be recovered by this Department from the
Russian Government in accordance with the usual
arrangement ±or the provision oi Russian credits in
this country.
Of the total sum paid to Persia, the Indian
share is recoverable by your Department direct from
the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. . Of the remaining
sum or - £360,000
there has been transferred from the
Vote of Credit up to date only - £225,000
the balance, consisting of - £135,000
having been met from funds at the disposal of your
Department.
On learning that further sums are needed to
replenish those funds, My Lords will be prepared to
direct transfer of this amount to the credit of the
Diplomatic and Consular Vote.
As regards the payment of future monthly
subsidies, the British and Russian shares (£22,500
per mensem in all) will be transferred from the Vote
of Credit, recovery of the Russian Share being
subsequently effected by this Department, leaving
£7,500 to be met from Indian funds. I am, however,
