The letter includes two enclosures:
1. A translation of a letter dated 7 July 1807 from Aga Mohummed Hassan to Nicholas Hankey Smith regarding intelligence that he has received regarding Persian victories against the Afghans and the terms agreed for Prince Feeroz's (the Afghan chief) surrender and submission to the King of Persia. It also notes that word has been received that the French ambassador Muknoochit has been received at the camp of the Persian King a month ago, but explains that his exact purpose is unknown.
2. Translation of a letter from Nicholas Hankey Smith to Jaffer Ali Khan [Ja‘afar ‘Alī Khān] dated 7 September 1807. The Resident is requesting an update on efforts to intercept a packet, asking whether any obstacles stand in the way and offering further resources should they be required to accomplish the task. It also notes that the Resident has also heard news that the Russians have made peace with both the French and the Turks and he desires to know whether the Persians are included in the arrangement.

Condition: The item has suffered from pest damage which has resulted in a number of holes in the folios that obscure some of the body of the letter. As a result, some of the text is a little difficult to read in places.
