continued presence of ex-King Hussein at Akaba lends
colour to this view. liiey have, therefore, decided
to invite him to proceed elsewhere. At the same
time, they are taking steps to establish the authori
ty of the Trans-Jordan administration in the whole
area within the boundary communicated to you in
October last. This will remove all possible danger
of territory under their mandate being used as a
base for operations against Your Highness. They
are ready and anxious to consult with you with a
view to the actual delimitation of the frontier
between Nejd and Trans-Jordan as well as the settle
ment of all outstanding questions between yourself
and Trans-Jordan and Irak, and are willing to
initiate immediate negotiations with Your Highness
or with an accredited representative either in
London or elsewhere. In the meantime, His Majesty’s
Government trust that you will despatch urgent in
structions to secure the withdrawal of any Akhwan
Force which may have been despatched against Akaba.

This volume contains correspondence, reports, telegrams, a memorandum and minutes between Sultan of Nejd Ibn Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd] and the British Representative regarding the negotiations of the Transjordan Used in three contexts: the geographical region to the east of the River Jordan (literally ‘across the River Jordan’); a British protectorate (1921-46); an independent political entity (1946-49) now known as Jordan boundary after the First World War. Related matters of discussion include the following: Gilbert Clayton’s mission; a conference agreement with tribunal representation; relations between Iran and Nejd relating to refugee issues; the British mandate; the railway in the southern part of Nejd; Mullah Hafiz; the Bahra agreement; the Hada Agreement; the Jeddah Agreement; and conflicts and riots between Iraq and Nejd around the frontier. The correspondence in the volume is mainly internal correspondence between British officials, although the Sultan of Nejd and officials from the Iraqi Government also feature.
The principal correspondents are: the High Commissioner for Iraq; Under Secretary of States; Sir Gilbert Falkingham Clayton, British Agent and Consul General in Jeddah; and the Government of Iraq.
