PREFACE.
rjlIIE following Report is divided into two parts. Part I deals
with Seistan from the general military point of view,
being sub-divided for this purpose into various chapters. Part
TI coiitains several Appendices, the main one being extracts from
Route Books giving the various routes in detail and a Gazetteer
giving topographical and other information alphabetically.
The authorities consulted in the compilation of the Report
were:—
1. Persia and the Persian Question, by the Hon. G. N. Curzon, M. P.
2. Report on Seistan and the country between it and Meshed, by
Lieutenant Hon'ble H. D. Napier.
8. The Mission to Seistan, and a Reconnaissance through Baluchistan
and Seistan, both by Major Brazier-Creagh, R. A.M. C.
4. Report by Khan Bahadur Maula Bakhsh on his journey from
Meshed to Quetta.
5. Record of the march of the Mission to Seistan, by Surgeon H. TV.
Bellew.
6. Meshed, Seisian and Chagai —political diaries of the last few year-!.

A military report on the Seistan [Sistan] region of Persia, written by Captain J M Home. Printed at the Office of the Superintendent of Government Printing, Calcutta, India, 1902. The report contains a preface (folio 3), a glossary (folio 5), and chapters on geography, communications, fortresses, climate, resources, ethnography, history, administration, naval and military, politics, and strategical positions. Also included (folios 51-90) is a gazetteer of Seistan, arranged in alphabetical order. At the back of the report is a map showing the routes described in Appendix A (folio 91).
