KACHULI, or CHAH-I-KACHULI—
A halting place in southern Seistan, 4 miles from the Gardanrig ford cn
the Shela, 28 miles from Burri Kila, 49 from Khanduk and 63 milles
from Sehkuha. There is a well here about 9 feet deep with a fair supply
of sweet water, which lasts all the year round. About 8 miles beyond the
well towards Burri Kila there are some pools of rain-water to be found in
the spring when a caravan might halt there. The place is called Kachuli,
which is the Baluch word for pottery, broken pottery being found in
quantities on the mounds near by.
Some Kharuti families spend the winter here and then go to Sarhad,
returning to fceistan for the harvest. They are Persian subiects.— 1C. E.

KACHIAN—
A Kayani village 10 miles from Margon and 12 miles from Afzalabad.
At present it contains only a few Kayanis and about a hundred houses of
other Seistanis. It was built some three generations ago by Bahram Khan
Kayani and was once surrounded by a high fortified wall now mostly

It is situated on the Adimi Canal and possesses 16 ploughs of cultivable
land. Government revenue 160 kharwars of grain.— {Ahmad Din.)

An Afghan fort on the Helmand, whither the Nahrui Baluch Chief,

A halting-place 82 miles south-west of Sehkuha. There is a solitary well
here, situated in the middle of the plain, which is said by the natives never
to run dry. It is cut through a substratum of white rock, and is in the
centre of a system of kanats, which stretch on every side to the base of the
surrounding hills. These are said to have been dug formerly by the Parsis;
and a remarkable solitary rock, crowning a hill in the neighbourhood, is said
to have been used by them for the exposure of their dead.— {Bozario t
