KAMI.—Lat. 28° 44 / ; Long. 64° 18'; Elev.
A halting-place on the Dalbandin plain, 13 miles from Band-i-Rhan
Jahan and 16 miles from Sorgil. Water, fuel, and camel forage abundant
and a little grass is procurable. [MacGregor.)
KANIAN.—Lat. 28° 44'; Long. 64° 35'; Elev.
A halting-place about 7 miles north of Rasani pass on the road from
Dalbandin south to Hurmagai.
KANIAN RIVER—
Rises east of Rasani pass and flows north to Bambakan in the
Dalbandin plain.
The Dalbandin-Hurmagai road follows its course as far as the pass.
KANI HILLS— Also called Zard Koh.
A short isolated range north-west of the Lora Hamun in North-West
Baluchistan, high at each end, but low in the centre, and through this
it is said that the Umbai route to Shah Ismail goes. These hills'appear
to rise fully 1,000 feet above the plain. They are bare and precipitous,
of a greenish black colour (whence no doubt the name) distinctly
stratified, and showing greyish and reddish bands. The whole of the
tract to the east of these hills is undulating sand, tolerably firm and
thickly grown with tagaz bushes. A long plain, evidently a branch
th . e great dasht, runs up between this range and the Mughal Kand.

old wells and digging new ones an ample supply for about 1,500 men and
2,200 camels was found here in six wells, 20 to 25 feet deep. Of these
wells, four of the best were new since the Baluch-Afghan Boundary Com-
mission came here in .896. There is good grazing here for camels. The
thermometer on January 23rd registered 12 0 of frost. (McMahon )
KANUK^
A sprmg and halting-place on the Shah Ismail route between Nushki
and balla Chah. Gazachah, the next stage towards Nushki, is 12 miles,
and Saha, the first stage towards Shah Ismail, is 5 miles distant. The
spring lies in the bed of a ravine just before reaching a Icotal It is said
to have formerly been very copious, but to have been choked by the fall
o a portion of the cliff. At date (1885) it is not very strong, but native
arrangements in the shape of several deep troughs and small wells exist
for storing its water, the total amount of water so stored being 540
gallons ; there is in addition a large pool of 160 gallons. The defile at
th.s point is too contracted for a halting-place for any numbers.
Additional troughs might readily be constructed and an attempt made
to re-open the spring.
The road emerges from Kanuk defile,
northern face of the Kanuk hills, which
trend away in west-south-west direction.
KANUK HILLS and DEFILE—
A range of hills in North-West Baluchistan and north-west of Gazachah.
