KUNZAI HILL.—Lat. 29° 31'; Long. 64° 53'; Kiev.
About 2 miles east-south-east of Gazechah at the north-western extre
mity of the Lora Hamun.
KURDS—
After the Damanis the Kurds are the tribe next in importance in
Sarhad. They are said to have originally come from Persian Kurdistan.
Up to a comparatively recent date the Kurd Sardars administered Sarhad
on behalf of the Persian Government, and in return for this privilege they
were permitted to levy a light grazing tax and a land tax at the rate
of i the gross returns, but only on condition that they kept a force of
200 sowars ready for instant service, and remitted to Bampur, annually,
100 maunds Koh-i-Taftan sulphur. Owing to treachery and internal
feuds the Kurds are now reduced in numbers and to a state of poverty.
The Kurds, who did not quit the country subsequent to the execution
of their late Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Sayad Khan’s four sons, may be divided into two
sections, viz.) the Mir Balozai whose “ Motbirs ” are Murad Khan and
Adul Karim since murdered and the Ismailzai whose “Motbirs" are
Mohim Khan and Allah Rassan. Collectively the Kurds are agriculturists. i
They possess karezes at Nazi!, Dehpa, Bed, Kwash, Dehbala, Kasimabad,
Mirabad, Sangun, Timin, Karezalin Jan, and Gosharod Khana. The total
strength of the clan, left in Sarhad, probably amounts to not more

KUSHTAGAN PASS—Lat. 29 0 23'; Long. 64° 10' ; Elev. 6,390'.
A pass over the Chagai Sarlat situated on the Afghan-Baluch frontier
between boundary pillars Nos. 162 and 163.
KUSHTAGAN RIVER—
An affluent of the Bulo river rising in Kushtagan pass.
KUMI CHIL—
One of the water-courses into which the Mashkel river divides as it
approaches the Hamun.
LADGASHT—.Lat. 27 0 53'; Long. 62° 59'; Elev.
A village, 24 miles north-north-east of Jalk, situated on the British
side of the Perso-Baluch border. There are about 200 houses. Supplies,
with the exception of gki, are scarce, and the water is rather brackish.

LADIS.—Lat. 28° 56 1 ; Long. 6i° 22'; Elev.
A strip of cultivated ground with a single grass hut lying on the right
bank of the Mirjawa stream, 12 miles west of Mirjawa. Aboveare
the ancient ruins of the Ladis fort said to have been built by Rustam,
a curious pile of ruins, built on the summit and sides of a long, narrow
bluff of rock which overlooks the river-bed. [Benni)
