Colonel Bell was informed that this district feeds upwards of ten
thousand camels and thirty thousand sheep by means of the various
ponds, wells, and oases scattered over it. {Maitland — Bell.)

The name of the desert at south-east end of the Hamun-i-Mashkel.
REG-I-KABUL.—Lat. 29 0 22'; Long. 65° 40"; Elev.
A desert portion of the Nushki district in which Jabar is situated and
traversed by the Nushki-Chagai direct road.
REG-I-KATU—
A strip of sand-hills about three miles north-east of Galichah and to
the west of Gaukok.
There are two wells among the sand-hills—
No. I.—3 miles from Galichah in a north-east direction.

REG-I-MALIK.—Lat. 28° 45' ; Long. 6i° 43'; Elev.
An isolated ridge of sand-hills over 4 miles long and varying from
30 to 50 feet in height passed at the eighteenth mile from Mirjawa on
the road to Ladgasht. These sand-hills run north-west and south-east.

san -hills when advantage is taken to cultivate a few acres of arable

A desert portion of the Nushki district in which Lala well is situated
and traversed by the Lora river.
REG-I-WAKAB.—Lat. 28° 20’; Long. 63° 29’; Elev.
The. desert east of the Hamun-i*Mashkel. The place is marked
by a big ridge of sand. (Tate.)
REGIN.—Lat. 28° 20'; Long. 63° 59'; Elev.
The sijcth stage (99 miles) from Kharan fort on the road to Galugah
and Jajh* From this place the road branches, one going in a north-
west direction for Amir Chah and Ladis, and the other to Galugah, 62
miles distant, passing close by the Gaukok and Behzad ridge. Wood
and grass plentiful, and water from a well 12 feet deep. (Ahmad Ali

As their name signifies are “ dwellers in sand ” or in the lowlands.
They may be divided into three divisions, viz., the Rekis of Mirjawa,
the Rekis of Mashkel, and the Rekis of Jalk,

Content

A report, marked as secret, on the area of Nushki, Chagai, and Western Sinjarani. The report was compiled in the Intelligence Branch, Quarter Master General's Department. The report was commenced in 1897 by Captain R E Roome, 6th Bombay Cavalry (Jacob's Horse), and revised and completed by Major W C Walton, 104th Wellesley's Rifles, Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General in 1903. It was printed at the Government Central Printing Office, Simla, in 1904.

The report includes a preface by Colonel John E Nixon, Assistant Quarter Master General, Intelligence Branch (folio 5) and a glossary of vernacular terms used (folio 6). The main body of the report contains chapters on geography, communications, fortified posts and forts, climate, sanitation, resources, ethnography, history, administration, and military strength.

The second part of the report includes a gazetteer of topographical and ethnographic information (folios 36-127) and appendices covering wells, canals, and meteorology, and including a report on the signalling stations of the Dalbandin-Robat line, with sketches (folios 131-147).

The volume includes the following maps:
