Notes.
1. Mustafa Bey has two or three brothers living at Mazruk, and lives mostly by
plundering Armenians, according to their story. His sphere is in Havatzor and
Kavash. I have never heard of him herore the last few days, but make no doubt he
is a thoroughly had lot and petty oppressor.
2. Vozim is a district of ten or twelve Kurdish villages and one or two Armenian,
nominally under Shattakh Caza, hut is completely beyond the sphere of any adminis
trative influence. It is south of the Shattakh Biver.
3. Eider is the Ka'imakam’s seat of Berwer Caza, Bitlis Vilayet.

My Lord, Constantinople March 28, 1891.
I HAVE the honour to report, with reference to your Lordship s despatcn
of the 10th instant, that I caused inquiries to he made of the Grand Vizier as to
whether any Mahommedans had been prosecuted for a share in the Erzeroum disturb
ances of the 30th June last. . . , ,
His Highness stated, in reply, that the loss ol life on that occasion had been
chiefly on the side of the Turks, and that the investigation which had taken place ha
led to certain avowals and confessions on the part of the Armenian prisoners concerned.
The Government, however, had preferred, in accordance with the advice given at the
time by Her Majesty’s Embassy, to set them at liberty. All proceedings m the matter
on both sides had accordingly been dropped.

inclosing a despatch from Mr. Vice-Consul Boyadjmn, reporting upon the scheme for
the formation of Kurdish cavalry.

received from Acting Vice-Consul Boyadjian in reference to the Kurdish cavalry
which is in course of formation. Mr. Boyadjian expresses similar views of this
measure to those which I have already had the honour to submit to your Lxcel-
