WITH reference to my despatch of the 5th instant, 1 have the honour to
transmit to your Lordship herewith copy of a despatcli which I have this day
received from Her Majesty’s Acting Consul at Erzeroum, reporting the return of the
Vali from Alashgird.
Mr. Hampson states that his Excellency’s journey has been productive of
considerable good, several officials have been dismissed, and Christians have beeti
instructed to address their complaints to the Vali direct*

P - :|£>0 I HAVE the honour to inform your Excellency that the Governor-General
returned last Monday from his tour in the Alashgird and Passim districts.
I hope and believe that this journey will have been productive of considerable
good. In addition to the change of the Kaimakam at Kara-Kilissa, I hear that his
Excellency has dismissed various subordinate officials at Bayazid and elsewhere; and
informed the Heads of the Christian communities throughout the districts which
he traversed that, if they had any complaints against the local authorities, they were
to apply direct to himself.

Armenians of the Diarbekir and Kharput districts.

I HAVE the honour to forward to your Excellency a despatch received from
Acting Vice-Consul Boyadjian, reporting a very uneasy feeling among the Armenians
of the Hiarbekir and Kharput districts.
Your Excellency will observe how closely the account given by Mr. Boyadjian
agiees ^ith the account of the feeling existing among the Armenians in this district,
which I have had the honour to submit to you in my despatch of the 21st March.
