these trends and developments are extremely harmful to all the parties concerned
t
except the Hindus and the Sikhs. Whatever need or justification there might have
been in the past for using the services of Hindus and Sikhs in the administration,
the strengthening of this hold on the administration is not likely to be conducive
^ the interests of the local Muslim population in the Gulf area.
^ In vievr T>f the g reat solicitude the United Kingdom Prime Minister
and other representatives of His Majesty’s Government showed at the recent
Commonwealth Conference in London for strengthening the bonds of Conmonwealth
co-operation, we cannot help feeling that the attitude of the British Political
Officers in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. could not have received the approval of His Majesty’s
Government. With the prestige that Pakistan enjoys among the Sheikhs, as well as,
the Arab population in the Gulf area. His Majesty's Government would surely find
it advantageous in tne long run to collaborate with Pakistan, whose relations,
political and commercial, with this area are bound to grow as time goes on. 7/e on
our part should be unhappy to see a policy followed which, whatever may be its
technical justification, has the practical effect of artificially super-imposing
Inaian influence and power in a Muslim area, particularly when we have reason to
believe it is resented by the local population.
Yours sincerely
