With reference to your letteVire.s 188 of December 11th 1920
relative to the emoluments of the temporary assistant to His
Majesty’s Consul at Shiraz, I am directed by the Marquess
Curzon of Kedleston to state, for the information of the Lords
Commissioners of His Majesty’s Treasury, that the Government
Ox India have appointed Captain C*T.Hoskins, Indian Army,
in the place of Captain Machan, and recommend that Captain
700. Hoskins be granted seven hundred rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. a month, pay of rank
200. plus two hundred rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. a month duty allowance. These are
equal in amount to the emoluments he would receive in military
employment, and are the same as those sanctioned in Their
Lordships’ letter 11165/20 of March 17th 1920.
2. The Secretary of State for India proposes to approve
this recommendation and accept as a charge on Indian Revenues
a moiety of the cost involved, on the understanding that Their
Lordships sanction the other moiety as a charge on Imperial
Revenues. This would be a similar procedure to that sanctioned
by Their Lordships in the letter above referred to.
3. As the continuance of the post of assistant to His
Majesty’s Consul at Shiraz is due to the earnest instance of
His Majesty f s Minister at Tehran, I am to request that Their
Lordships will sanction the cost involved pending the receipt
of information from Mr .Chick as to his staff needs.
4. Mr.Chick is being asked to supply this information,
and a further communication will be sent to Their Lordships in
due course.
