mainly, with Bahrein oil, bat also with crade oil imported
from the California Coy.’s Hasa concession. This will be
exempted from .import duty on entry into Bahrein, bat the Coy.
have agreed that daty shoald be paid on crade oil or its
prodacts imported into Bahrein for consamption there, -hey
bae also agreed to an amendment of Art. VII(a) of the lease.
This article, which provides for a royalty of Rs.S^ per ton
of net crade oil got and saved, excepts from sach royalty
"oil repaired for the castomary operations of the Coy.’s
installations in the Sheikh’s territories". It is proposed tjo
amend this article so as to provide that Bahrein oil ased for
the parpose of working the refinery will not be excepted from
royalty.
The main lines of the proposal for the erection oi
a refinery were discassed by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in a
preliminary way with the Sheikh on 1st October, and stated ir| a
letter to the Sheikh of 2nd October (see Resident's express
letter of 12th October). The Sheikh is prepared to give the
general exemption from taxation which is asked for, subject to
