reoeived telegram from Ooveruaent of Indie
stating that necesjeary arias and asunuiition will be
sent to you direct froa India. 1 aa informed by
Secretary of State for India that he ie unable to
approach Government of India with request that
they will bear expense of supplying obsolete
British rifles toldrisi in exchange for foreign
r iflee in his possession pending final settlement
of incidence of this expenditure. Having regard to
the fact that no funds are available froa other
sources for meeting this expense and that /ith
prospect of making terms with the loam necessity
of this exchange is proportionately less urgent I
trust that you will agree that we should drop
proposal for exchange of Idrisi's arms.
