I cannot conclude this report without bringing to your notice the
very valuable service rendered by Mr. George Antonius, as Secretary
to the Mission. His comprehensive knowledge both of English and
of Arabic ensured a means of communication between Ibn Sa‘ud and
myself, which rendered any misunderstandings impossible. I
entrusted to him all the detailed negotiations with Sultan Ibn Sa'ud’s
advisers, and the results achieved by my Mission are due in a large
measure to the tact and firmness with which he conducted those dis
cussions. His advice and assistance were of great value to me
throughout the course of the negotiations, and I venture to submit
that his services merit special recognition by His Majesty’s Govern
ment.
