22nd September, 1925.
Confidential.
Chief Secretary.
Subject : Mission to Arabia.
In accordance with your verbal instructions, I proceeded to Trans
jordan and, under the direction of the C.B.R., carried out an investi
gation into the question of the eastern frontier. Time has not
allowed of as full an enquiry as I should have liked to make. No
detailed maps were available, but I am endeavouring to obtain a
supply on my passage through Cairo.
2. I submit herewith a memorandum with three annexures con
taining the results of my enquiry, drawn up for the information of
Sir Gilbert Clayton. If these conclusions are approved by His
Excellency, you will think it fit perhaps to send me a statement to that
effect. I may add that Colonel Cox, to whom I submitted the draft,
has declared himself in agreement with its contents.
3. I am preparing to leave Jerusalem on the morning of Friday
next, the 25th instant. May I take this opportunity to-acknowledge
my special indebtedness to Mr. A. S. Kirkbride, who accompanied
me on my trip to Ma‘an and Jafr, and whose knowledge of the tribes
and the country were of the greatest help to me.
G. Antonius,
Secretary to the Mission.
