ANNEXURE 5.
Draft Agreement concerning Trans-Jordan presented to the Sultan
of Nejd on the 25th October, 1925.
The High British Government on its own part and His Highness
‘Abdu’l-'Aziz ibn ‘Abdu’r-Rahman al-Faisal Al Sa‘ud, Sultan of Nejd
and its Dependencies, on behalf of the Government of Nejd, in view
of the friendly relations which exist between them, being desirous of*
settling certain questions in regard to the frontier between Nejd and
1 rans-Jordan, the High British Government have named and ap
pointed Sir Gilbert Clayton, K.B.E., C.B., C.M.G., as their Com
missioner and Plenipotentiary, to conclude an Agreement for this
purpose with Sultan ‘AbduVAziz ibn ‘Abdu’^Rahman al-Faisal
Al Sa‘ud.
The said Sir Gilbert Clayton and S«ltan ‘Abdu’PAziz ibn ‘Abdu’r-
Rahman al-Faisal Al SaTid, hereafter known as Ibn Sa‘ud, have
agreed upon and concluded the following Articles :
Article 1.
I he frontier between Nejd and Trans-Jordan starts in the north
east from the point of intersection of meridian 39°E with parallel 32 fc N,
which marks the termination of the frontier between Nejd and ‘Iraq,'
and proceeds in a straight line to the point of intersection of meridian
37°E with parallel 31°25'N, thus including Jebel Thokhra and
Rashrashiya in Trans-Jordan, and leaving Kaf and Rekeban to Nejd.
From that point it proceeds in a straight line to the point of inter
section of meridian 38°E and parallel 30°N, leaving all edges of the
Wadi A seasonal or intermittent watercourse, or the valley in which it flows. Sirhan in Nejd territory ; and thence proceeds along meridian
38°E to its intersection with parallel 29° 3o'N.
The Map referred to in this Agreement is Asia “International ”
Map, 1 :1,000,000.
Article 2.
Ibn Sa ud undertakes that he will not establish any fortified post at
K,if or utilize Kaf or the district in its neighbourhood as a military
centre , and should he at any time consider it necessary to take special
measures in the neighbourhood of the frontier with a view to the
maintenance of order or for any other purpose, involving the con
centration of armed forces, he engages to notify His Majesty’s
Government without delay.
Ibn Sa ud further undertakes to prevent by all the means at his
disposal any incursions by his forces into the territory of Trans
jordan.
