with the 'Vestern margin of the natural feature Esh Shakk.
Thence it proceeds Southwards along the Western edge of
Esh Shakk until it reaches the latitude of Ain-el-Abd,
through which Meridian it passes Eastwards until it cuts
the coast midway between Has Khafdja and Has Eishaab., The
tract of country thus formed, bounded on the West by the
Shakk, on the North by the red semi-circle, on the East
by the Sea Coast and on the South by the line oassing
from the Shakk through Ain-el-Abd to the coast, is
accepted as common territory in which both parties will
enjoy equal rights, pending any further agreement that
might be come to.
The reason for the creation of this neutral
enclave

was that a rumour had been started that signs of
oil had been noticed in the vicinity of the Khor Naqta.
In view of this I did not feel able to agree to its
allocation to either party unt 1 the rumour had been set
at rest.
