Bahrain has telegraphed to me a
summary of Your Highness* letter of February loth, re
garding the proposed meeting of representatives, as
regards status of the tribes ( 1 ) Amarat Anaizeh
(2) Dhafir (3) Muntafik* I have understood your point
of /iew. While I thought it advisable in order to save
time, to acquaint you with the prima facie point of view
of Iraq it is of course well understood that at the
meeting both sides will state their views and the
ooject will be to find an amicable solution each side
recognising the difficulties of the other and seeking
a reasonable compromise. If there should prove to be
such a wide divergence of views that an agreement did
no t seem possible I think we should ask the views and
advice of His Majesty’s Government. As regards the three tribes
mentioned it is not hidden from you that the Ajmarat
have always been associated with Iraq and have looked
towards the Baghdad Government in the pas t ana that
