I have the honour to report that during the last ten days Jiruft and
Narmashir have been considerably upset by raids made by Baluchis from
Bampur and the Sarhad the latter being reported to be Jihand Khan’s men
of the Yarmhdzai tribe. Report of numbers reach 900 but it may be assumed
that several hundred probably some 300 to 400 are taking part. They
divided into two parties.
2 . Reports state that, while coming on a raiding expedition, the fixed
part of their programme was to raid the villages of Zargham-us-Saltaneh
Rudbari in revenge for the fact that Rahmat Khan Zorabzai, one of
Zargham’s chiefs, had defeated a party of Dost Mohanied’s men killing some
of them.
3. The raiders were under the leadership of Shahsawar Khan and Khau
Mohamed and the latter, in command of one party, attacked Rahmat Khan
Zorabzai taking him prisoner and carrying him off to Bampur.
4. The raiders passed within a few miles of Bam and sent a message to
the Officer Commanding troops there saying that as they heard the Persians
wished to come to Baluchistan they had come to meet them instead and to
fight them if they so desired.
They have carried away considerable quantities of loot, the people at
the foot of the Jabal Bariz hill suffering especially.
5. They also attacked and defeated a post of the Persian cavalry at
Jiruft, taking 12 horses 14 mules and the uniforms of such of the detach
ment as did not succeed in fleeing in time. It is stated that 4 soldiers and.
2 Baluchis were killed but it is impossible to get correct details as the
General Officer Commanding has not yet disclosed them. The Officer Com
manding troops Bam is reported to have taken out troops from Bam but
